Reserved Instances commit to a 1- or 3-year commitment on a specific VM type in a specific region, in exchange for a significant discount compared to Pay-As-You-Go. Savings Plans work more flexibly: you commit to a fixed hourly rate of compute usage, regardless of VM family, region, or operating system, at a slightly lower discount. Which variant is more advantageous depends on how predictable and stable your workloads are. What is Azure Hybrid Benefit and when does it pay off? Azure Hybrid Benefit allows you to leverage existing on-premises Windows Server and SQL Server licenses with Software Assurance (or suitable plans) for reduced compute costs in Azure. It is particularly beneficial if you already own those licenses that would otherwise remain unused; without the underlying licenses, there is nothing to utilize. How much of our Azure costs can typically be saved? This varies significantly by environment, but industry-wide research (Flexera, 2026) shows that organizations consider an average of 29% of their IaaS/PaaS cloud costs to be wasted. Common causes include oversized workloads, resources that remained active after a project, and commitments that do not align with actual usage.
